Going out of your way to be different is a lot different then "hating" on something. As for Ultramarines not having character... ummm, they are the poster boys for GW & Marines in general and have been for years. They have novels, more characters, more information available, and a MOVIE. Not sure how much more "character" you need.

How many people do you know that play strictly Ultra-Blue-Marines?
Because I bet you anything there are more Blood Angel, Space Wolf and Imperial Guard players.

But really, even if you are using a mere Captain or Chapter Master from the SM codex, you are still playing as Ultramarines technically. Even if you painted your Marines green with pink stripes running up their legs.

You know, inactually I believe there are a fairly high % of actual blue marines. I am sure this varies based on your area though.

      Well I'm sure of that.
This reminds me of Beast of War. It seems that every one of the guys on that blog/vlog/forum seem to have a heart throb for Space Marines, and believe anything under T/S4 and 3+ armor is useless.
The new Dark Eldar army is beastly. It's still a finesse army. But they failed to comprehend that when I was watching their reviews on YouTube. They were literally calling everything crap. Sorry for my language but that's the truth. They even dismissed the all around 4+ poison splinter weapons for the entire freakin army as useless! I've been watching this trait take down characters like Mephisten, Lysander, Eldrad, squads with Feel No Pain and obviously creatures like the Trygon.
But the fact that it couldn't scratch armor 10 vehicles makes it useless apparently.
That's what the Raiders, which are vehicle popping transports, are made for. Seriously, a 60 point transport that has the ability to take a Land Raider out; having a 50/50 chance of at least glancing it! And not only that, but it has a plethora or cheap upgrades which can buff the vehicle, making it literally untouchable, or buffing the unit inside by twin-linking all of their splinter weapon shots!

Anyway, there you have it. Enough with the off-topic rant on my part. :P

Aside from my space wolf army, I play a drop pod heavy salamanders list. I love dropping tons of melta goodies with Vukan on the board.

Oh Drop Pods are great. I love running them in my Black Templars. I'm actually typing out a Battle Report on my blog I started yesterday about a game I played today against Salamanders.

I don't hate the Ultramarines, but I can see people being tired of them. They ARE the "poster boy" Chapter. I loved the books, but wasn't inspired to field an army of them. I actually played them first (way back in Rogue Trader era) and moved from them to Crimson fists (just has to paint all their arms and redo their shoulder pads....LOL.
But since they are THE PERFECT army/Chapter for beginners, they do seem to be EVERYWHERE!! LOL.
I much rather like seeing some imagination, especially in this universe, since everything is "Inspired" or downright stolen from everywhere else.
Even a "Codex" army OTHER than the boys from MaCragge is welcome.

      How so?

Really, with everything we've seen on film, or read in books, it's kinda hard to really create some new form of architectural or cultural style without it having any similarities to something else that has already been done before. Except for that Avatar hair thing. I've never seen that before... nor do I want to see it again. I was quite disturbed.

Well Brothers, I am new to this forum and I'm a very hateful of the Ultrasmurfs, never liked them, and I have been playing 40K since the Rogue Trader times. I believe they are the most unbalanced Army in 40K, they have too many characters, I believe they even have one for whipping their arse. What about the other armies? I play IG, SW, IF, CF,BT and BA. and none of them has as many characters as the Ultrasmurfs....I know is all money ( I used to work for GW ) but this is ridiculous. How abt. doing a good codex for the other armies? specially the ones that were at the palace defending the emperor?
I love the fluff but this bias thing that GW has with the ultrasmurfs is beyond comprehension.
Well that was my grain of salt.
      The Emperor Protects.
For Russ, For The Emperor !!!!
